To create an individual feel to each of the themed rooms in this boutique Cambridge hotel. Retaining light and a feeling of space glass doors, showers and mirrors forms each of the roomy en-suite areas.
Formally known as the Railway lodge, the new Orlando hotel in Cambridge underwent a complete renovation which included each individual room having a uniquely designed glass en-suite enclosure. Working alongside the hotel’s owner, our in house designer Clive Sparkes used his own personal and unique vision to tailor each design accordingly to each specific room providing a wow factor to the new boutique hotel.
LED Lit Glass
Glass designer Clive has created a glass design process in which a sketch of any image is etched onto glass and edge lit with LED lighting. Light travels through the glass and will be held by the etched design. The seamless LED display combined with the beautifully bespoke designs creates a unique effect for glass features such as the Orlando’s beautifully designed rooms.
Themes at the hotel included trees, dancers, chess pieces, a motorcycle and petrol pump, an accordion and even the original railway lodge signage. Etching using shading techniques allowed Clive to produce designs which provided both decoration and privacy.
Frameless glass doors and showers help to increase the light and space in any room and there is no restriction on where they can be used. To increase the space in the 8 rooms, sliding glass shower doors were chosen to maximise space in the en-suites and the use of Easy clean Eco glass means that showers will retain their clarity even in hard water areas like Cambridge.
