A Contemporary Countryside Home Defined by Light, Space and Bespoke Glass

Located on the edge of a RSPB nature reserve, Mill Hide is a bespoke residential development designed to blend rural character with modern comfort. Go Glass Design was commissioned to create a complete package of custom interior glass features based on architectural specifications.

Surrounded by mature landscapes and open countryside, Tim Poulson conceived the property as a calm, isolated retreat that connects seamlessly to its natural surroundings. Every element of the design, from the clean architectural lines to the generous ceiling heights, was created to maximise clarity. The property prioritises its general space and openness, matching the surrounding countryside only outside its walls.

To help enhance the modern aesthetic within certain parts of the property, our team created a 2.7m full-height shower enclosure, along with a series of frameless partitions, hinged doors, and sliding doors. Each item was made to measure, ensuring a perfect fit throughout the property.

Project Requirements

When we were approached about creating glass products for the property, we were told about the specific requirements needed to match the property’s aesthetic. Our client required high-quality, made-to-measure glass products that would:

What did we deliver?

The standout feature of this project is the 2.7-metre full-height frosted showers, designed to create a luxury, spa-inspired feel. The shower screen is designed to make the most of the property’s tall ceilings and modern aesthetic. The satin-etched glass panel shown here provides subtle privacy while allowing light to move naturally through the space, creating a bright and calming atmosphere.

Custom-Fitted Wall Mirror

The bathroom also features a large, custom-fitted wall mirror designed to enhance the sense of space and reflect light throughout the room. Positioned above the basin, the mirror is cut to precise dimensions to align seamlessly with the surrounding wall tiles, creating a clean, streamlined appearance. A slim glass display shelf, integrated directly beneath the mirror, provides practical storage without adding visual weight. Together, these elements contribute to a bright, modern, and highly functional bathroom design, complementing the shower’s minimalist aesthetic.

Sliding Glass Doors

Where space savings were essential, our sliding door systems provided an elegant and functional solution.

Frameless Glass Partitions

To maintain the open feel of the property while defining different areas, Go Glass Design created frameless glass partitions for usage throughout the property.

Hinged Glass Doors

Walk-On Glass Water Panel

At the entrance of the property, a commemorative walk-on glass panel is positioned above a shallow water feature, creating a striking architectural focal point. The glass features the property’s name, when it was built, and who designed it. Manufactured from toughened, laminated structural glass, the panel is designed to safely support foot traffic while offering a clear view of the water below. Its clean edges and minimal detailing complement the surrounding materials, adding a refined contemporary touch to the exterior.

Technical Challenges & Solutions

Handling Large-Scale Glass Panels

The 2.7m shower required specialist handling, careful movement through the property, and precise installation techniques. Our trained team ensured safe and accurate transportation of the panel.

Precision in Tight Spaces

By carefully measuring our glass and considering its surroundings, we produced each panel to exact tolerances, ensuring a seamless result in otherwise challenging areas.

Maintaining Safety Without Compromising Style

All products were manufactured using certified safety glass with polished edges and reinforced fixings, meeting performance requirements without adding visual noise.

The project has received major industry acclaim, most notably winning the regional award for the Grand Designs House of the Year and being honoured with a prestigious RIBA Award. Recognised for its sculptural clarity, meticulous detailing, and exceptional handling of light, the building has been celebrated as a standout example of contemporary residential glass design, firmly establishing its status as an award-winning architectural achievement.
