The Glass Shop is our new online cut-to-size service for our Cambridge customers. Please note that glass must be collected from our Production Centre – 12a Solopark Trading Estate, Station Road, Pampisford, Cambridge, CB22 3HB.

Normal lead time for toughened units is approx 7 days. You can order non-processed toughened glass for doors and windows in 4 and 6mm thickness. If your application is for shelving and tableops, please choose polished edges.

How is toughened glass made?

Toughened glass is made by subjecting a panel of annealed glass to heating followed by rapid cooling.  The glass is heated to around 600 degrees C and then cooled by directing cool air or water directly onto the glass.  This creates a state of surface compression to the glass which gives It both strength and durability and makes it suitable for a range of applications

How strong is toughened glass?

Typically, toughened glass is around 4 to five times stronger than ordinary glass and is much more resistant to breakage than standard float glass.

Is it heat resistant?

Yes, toughened glass is resistant to sudden temperature changes and thermal stress, this makes it ideal for products such as glass splashback behind hobs.

How long does it take to manufacture?

Toughened glass takes around 7 working days to cut to size, edge processing and glass sandblasting may mean it takes slightly longer.
